{this moment}....date night

We have perfected the art of the stay at home date night. With or without children. If the kids are around, and they usually are, we sometimes opt to feed them early and eat alone after the house is still and quiet. More than anything it’s a mind set, but candles and a little XM radio and a fire don’t hurt either.

We often split a steak. This one is Matt’s creation. A bit of blue cheese mixed with butter is plopped on the steak while it rests. We cut up a jalapeno and fried it in the pan with the steak. Fiery and tangy and rich. We threw the fries in the steak pan for a final blast of flavor and served it all up with red wine.

And as we’ve done for almost 20 years....there was a pint of Band J waiting in the freezer.

Have a good weekend, All!

  1. It is so important to keep the romance alive and I love your date night! Now that my children are older, they are usally up later than me! But the plus side is they like to go out on the weekends so we have the house to ourselves. Have a fun weekend Ivey and can't wait to hear what's on my menu for Monday! ;)

  2. Date night is the best night! Isn't it great to cook better than a restaurant? Have a great weekend.

  6. Steak + bleu cheese butter + pomme frites = Yum x 100.
One of the unexpected perks of having kids turned out to be date night at home. It forced me to learn how to cook, and now, it's one of my favorite things to do! If your date night was anything like the food, it must have been fantastic!

  7. Cute...and tasty. Before becoming veg we had the most amazing skirt steak in Mexico City at a friend's wedding reception. If someone brought it to me on a plate now I'd totally relapse. Our date nights often occur at home after the wee ones are (mostly) in bed.

  8. I am envious that you can have date night at home with kids and with no problems!! Impossible here. The moment my son smells that we want to be alone, he is right there, wondering what he is missing--torture...

But the thought of cooking together, with some wine, a fire, some music--sounds wonderful..
And I just realized that our date night is tomorrow night, and guess what, the kids are staying with Nana! Thanks for the wonderful ideas!

  9. Great idea! We can't always get a babysitter for our large crew, so I might use this idea!

  10. Date Night? Oh yeah, I vaguely remember that... lol! ;0

It was hard for me to choose a moment this week, but since this made me laugh at myself & how far I've come with ocd, I chose "Cheerios and Toes".

I really hope you will take a "moment" to come by! :)
