{this moment}...my last baby

Taken this morning. It could go today. She is so excited. She is quite late in the tooth losing department. I joke with her that we’ll put her in the Guinness book for oldest child on earth with all her baby teeth. But I guess not. The tooth fairy will come with a few jangly quarters, and the tooth will live in my jewelry box with all the others. My most precious jewels for sure.

Oh we swell with love for this one. All of them, of course. But you know what I mean.

Happy weekend.

  2. Precious. Ivey, do you have any posts on how you discipline or really what did you do when your kids were toddlers and had tantrums. Just curious, at a loss some days. Thank you.

    1. hello! wow. i was just thinking yesterday that i was thankful to be past the explosive, sometimes unexplainable, tantrum days. i don’t think i’ve written specifically on how i discipline and i’ve never thought that i had even half of the answers. more like maybe one or two. in general, my kids are fairly well behaved. i’m not strict. we state our case and move on. no spanking, no time outs. it’s different with toddlers, but i always tried to keep in mind that developmentally we were on opposite planets that shared an orbit. i usually walked away from wild fits for the sake of us both. i think we can talk too much and never took on any ’scenarios’ that weren’t authentic to me. i don’t think that toddlers need a list of ‘choices’ to feel in control and am pretty loose about rules. i.e if my young child WAS NOT going to put a coat on in a snow storm, then whatever....they will in about 5 minutes when they’re freezing. no one is going to get hurt in the meantime. i DO think that the worse of two evils is over mothering....controlling things that don’t matter and making our kids fearful of making mistakes or even trying at all. I also figured out early on that kids are super resilient and don’t need us half as much as we think they do. With all of that said, our lives are almost totally kid centered. They are folded into everything we do and always rise to the occasion. When they don’t we can talk and usually laugh and figure it out together. It’s a crap shoot, isn’t it?!?!!! But so wonderful! When you feel overwhelmed step back and do something for yourself! happy weekend dear!

  9. The drama of teeth falling out! She looks ready!

And your earlier parenting advice was right on. Toddlers are awesome as soon as you realize they are little people just trying to figure out he world and not naughty dogs.

    Hope your weekend is fun!

  10. Okay, it's settled. Col will be the oldest child to lose a tooth (none yet, just turned 7, but you know he's on a different timetable).
I'll be looking for the space in Della's smile next time I see her.
    xoxoxo to the 100th power!

  11. The baby teeth are so cute, those tiny little squares.
My oldest lost her bottom two very early at 4 and over a year later the top are finally getting loose.
    All stages are adorable.
    Sigh.

  12. Sweet smile. It's amazing how big girl teeth and big holes constantly change a smile. Good job capturing it.
