Is it just me?
When I read the manual, it said that I was to 'eat what needs eating'.
Those were the exact words.
I know you saw that part. And I do. I mix together everything that 'needs eating' and put it on a bed of greens and eat it. Dutifully.
hummus
tuna
eggs
beets
coleslaw
{yes, you can put slaw on salad}
steak
refried beans
chili rellenos
cornbread
sausage
quiche
fish
kraut
cheese
whatever

'Eat what needs eating.'
Your children aren't going to do it and your husband is not going to do it.
If you put it on a salad, if lends the illusion of a fresh healthy first choice.
Sometimes I feel like the compost pile.
A human compost pile.

That's how my salads look and I eat them out of a serving bowl, my husband calls it my 'trough'! :)
ReplyDeleteI woke up this morning thinking what "compost" dinner I could create that would still keep my men happy. Maybe salads for myself are a better bet ;) You're a lovely compost pile Ivey! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh I know just what you mean. Yes, I saw that part in the Mama Manual too. Growing up, I remember being slightly grossed out that my mom would eat bits of 5 things that didn't go together for dinner...now I do just that myself!
ReplyDeleteMakes perfect sense! Haven't read the "Mama Manual" but your post also reminds me to eat seasonally whatever's growing. Love the "Compost" image :))))
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. I call them garbage salads. I put it in the salad days before it would go in the garbage (actually depending on what it is either feed it to the dogs or put it in the compost bin, but it doesn't sound the same!).
ReplyDeleteYup, I have a few things that need eating too, ha ha.
ReplyDeleteLOL!!!! I loved this Ivey. I never put a name to these kind of meals, but I like the Rogue Salad, or the Trough, as Tracey's husband puts it. As my grandmother use to say, "it all looks the same going down anyway..."
ReplyDeletexo
I never thought of putting pumpkin ice cream on a salad! But I'll give it a go!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
I too like my salad dressing to be the rest of dinner.
