the wandering dinner

What is summer without a block party? My beautiful neighbor, Kristin, made these darling invites and we distributed them to everyone in our valley plus some (75 mailboxes), and told them to bring their friends and family. I have my head in the sand as to how many people this could be, and I think that's a good approach. It beats heart attack mode, right?

For dinner, we are making a simple mint and pea pasta and serving it with a red and white Italian wine. I'm thinking that a large vat of minty pink lemonade would be fun for the kids. If I had a recipe, I'd share it, and I will let you know how it goes. I have gathered the mint and am now gathering my wits. I will clean a little, but after having a bevy of kids here all day, I'm not expecting any miracles.

Just fun.

Bikes, meeting lots of new folks, yummy Italian foods and wines, and just plain old fun. I am always a little disconcerted that we can live so close to so many people and hardly know who they are. This should remedy that! My kids are beside themselves...ready to ride and meet and greet!

How does your neighborhood bond?
I'd love to know!

  2. HOW CRAZY FUN!!!! I'll admit I'm slightly jealous ;) We had a great community to bond with in Cali but here is a different story. Maybe I should just crack the whip and invite my whole street over even if they refuse to wave high to me as the drive by....hmmmmm you've got me scheming! Have such a great time! Cant wait to hear about it :)

  3. This is BEYOND cool. I can't wait to hear how it all went. I wish, I hope, I DREAM to live in a little community like yours one day. Maybe I will have to take a page outta your book and MAKE a little community feeling like yours. Awesome Ivey!

  4. Ok, just give me directions. I have a bike now ;), hee hee. What a fabulous idea Ivey!!! I may have to steal it!! I am planning something similar, though without bikes! I am planning a French dinner party for my neighbors in July. We will string lights, have wine, cheese, baguette, everybody bringing a French dish of some sort.... We have a wonderful neighborhood actually. Yesterday we had an impromptu gathering on our front lawn, kids on the hammock and tree swings, us with our chairs, wine and fruit. I can't tell you how fortunate I feel to finally be in a neighborhood that actually shares and plays together.

Looking forward to hearing how yours turns out!! Have a great time!!

  7. This is one fabulous idea!! We have community potlucks all the time at a local environment center, Canada's most sustainable building. So much fun to gather and share.
