30 days of yoga

Holy Cow! Oh, I’ve been wanting to spill the beans on this one! A LARGE part of my October Challenge has to do with mind and body awareness, and for years, really all my life, I’ve wanted to give yoga a serious go. But for a million different reasons, that has never happened. Until now!

When I decided to spend October focusing inward, I realized that it fabulously co-incided with Yoga Durango’s October Challenge. I told them about my plan and here we are!

By hook or by crook, I am going to do yoga for thirty days in a row.  And I’m going to share about it here. I really do expect the results to be remarkable! While I am fairly fit, I am lacking in flexibility and core strength. The use of the breath and mental awareness and intention around the whole mind and body are already benefits that I am noticing. I haven’t been this excited about something in a long time, and am grateful for the chance to participate. Look for the Yoga Durango button in the sidebar and check out their website!

They have two studios and both are such soothing and beautiful spaces. If you are reading this and live in Durango, let it serve as a kick in the pants! Come join me, you’ll be so glad!

My teabag fortune has been the same for the past three days! Could someone be speaking to me via warm drink?

It’s only day three for me and I’m feeling all sorts of new feelings and an 'opening up' that brings awareness to places I’ve long neglected.

What can you do to push a little deeper than you’re used to?

Have a cup of tea and give it some thought.

(and folks, it is not too late to join me in the october challenge, in fact, i insist that you must! seize some time and space for yourself, and light your inner bonfire!)

  1. Go Ivey!! I'm rooting for you! Is it Hatha? Power or Ashtanga? Just remember to go slow and easy! I have hurt myself more doing yoga than any other physical activity cause of pushing myself too much and having to be like Nancy nimble next to me (can take the girl out of the competition but not the competition out of the girl I s'pose). Have fun!!

  2. Cool! I've wanted to start meditating for a while now but have started and stopped many times before. I started again last night and you've inspired me to give it a go for 30 days in a row! So thank you. I'll report back on how it goes.

  5. I"m a firm believer in the power of yoga to help you feel good on many levels- enjoy!
I recently had the opportunity to take a workshop with Mark Freeth and it reminded me how much I love and miss a deep and challenging practice. With Hawker's help on Sunday mornings I am now attending such a class:)

  6. Great news. Continuity is the hardest part of sadhana for everyone. I wish you all the best. I practice daily through antar mouna, yoga nidra and the more common forms of yoga, asana, pranayama and kirtan. Take precious care and make every moment divine. Love Katie x

  7. You sound like the kind of person who might enjoy my latest book find (which I'm not done with yet, so I really should reserve comment, but I'm loving it so far...) the Happiness Project. A former lawyer who clerked for Sandra Day OConnor, now writer and mom, documents her year of well researched happiness project. January was energy==and yoga among other things. I'm back to yoga--as soon as my back stops spasm-ing (not yoga related injury--I sneezed holding a heavy bag...go figure!)
