garden be gone

It sounds ungrateful, I know, but I am so ready for the garden to be done. The cycle has run it’s course and I’m tired of feeling guilty about the bowl of zukes and tomatoes and eggplant on the counter. I am taking action. My plan of attack involves an oven full of roasting veggies that will become sauces, dips, and pizza toppings.

Adios friends. And thank you.

I am left with a huge bag of green tomatoes, a drawer full of cabbages, and an ever growing apple stash.

This dutch oven apple pie is fabulous to look at has an odd twist to the recipe....a layer of butter and brown sugar under the bottom crust. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Gophers showed up in my garden as I gathered in the final stragglers. HA! You sons of bitches! No go this year.

We also cut down the dead sunflower heads and put them on the bird shelf in the kitchen window. We shared them with the rats, too. Lewis remarked that the garden offered up a little something for everyone. We've come full circle around here.

As I write, a bone broth is brewing and green chiles need peeling.

Fall has firmly stepped in and the mountains are calling with golden flags to be climbed a few more times before the snow flies. I have been trail running every chance I get and I don’t know if I can adequately express the feeling of losing all your thoughts and cares to the cadence of a steady footfall on a ridge above two sweeping valleys. Sweat and heartbeat and soul stirring majesty.

If I could get a jet plane to come pick you up to join me, I would.

And hooray to those who are joining me in the october challenge

More on that tomorrow!!!

Your photos are wonderful and I hope your roasted veggies tasted as good as they looked. 2. I get what your saying about your garden. I was so thankful when our summer garden died, I was just sick of even looking at it! I have had a break and now I'm ready for the fall garden. I'll let you know when I'm tired of it too!
I would love to run with you. I get a little bored running here as everything is just flat. My property is only 3 feet above sea level! xx

  5. We are in sync - I am ready for the fall to move in and all that it means...though we continue to get odd 85 degree days here lately. Enjoy your runs, I will keep you in my thoughts as I pound the pavement here in the city with the maples turning colors around me.
