Finally, it is snowing. Folks around here get antsy when the snow is late. The local economy depends on it. So whew. We woke up to the beautiful muffled silence of falling snow. With the littles, this meant hooky. Fresh sausage, french toast, hot cocoa and a cyclops snowman. Poor Della, has no snow suit or boots. She is a hodge podge of way too big hand me downs, which will work for today, and in no way hinders her cyclops snowman abilities.
I start work tomorrow at the mountain, so snow is good. The boys are excited to strut their stuff and have been practicing wild tricks in the gym all fall. Here's to lots of fresh powder to buffer their air seeking missions.
In other news, our dear, sweet puss is gone. They walk out the back door never to return. There is no knowing what happened. Coyotes, owl, mountain lion. This cat was a love bug and I'm not throwing in the towel yet, but it doesn't look good. The kids are pretty stoical about it all. They know that this is a possibility and we just love the hell out them while we have them.
A lovely and scrawny tree awaits our attention tonight. I think it's perfect, but am having a hard time convincing Della that it's going to be beautiful. It's lacey and delicate, as opposed to thick and full...the better to showcase our Star Wars collection. (thanks mom!)
What else? Ah yes. The whole 30 thing continues and is going well. I am feeling some frustration around getting everybody fed and full, but this will resolve over time as I get myself more organized and have more meals planned. Planning is not my strong suit. We feel healthy and energized and remarkably different and I'm looking forward to being done with the whole 30 business, so that I can integrate the whole family into what will be a forever shift in eating that is not quite as rigid. HOWEVER. The whole 30 was essential for me in making that shift. I am a creature of habit, and needed the three hundred and sixty degree kick in the ass. We have parties this weekend, so that will be interesting. I will say that what I miss the most are potatoes, in all of their lovely incarnations, and a glass of beer on Friday evening. Otherwise, I'm all good.
Max changed schools a few weeks ago. He went from a big middle school to a much smaller private school. He loves it. It is much harder, but he is doing well. He is engaged. That is the primary difference that I can see. He is fully engaged. He was desiring more and I'm proud of him and his willingness to leave his friends and join a new class mid stream.
Let me run get something done!
Your town was mentioned on the Weather Channel this morning and I thought of you getting all that beautiful snow, I would love just a little here.
ReplyDeleteYou can do the Whole30, parties or no parties.
I think I miss cheese most of all, especially the 'blue kind' as Emerson calls it. Oh well, at least I am going to be better for it, although I must confess to you that the Crossfit Mamas isn't going too well, just too much going on right now. I know, that is not an excuse, but I can live with it until after Christmas and then it's back to it, promise.
Have a beautiful weekend Ivey and enjoy all the wonderful moments with your family.
Look at all that lovely snow. Wishing for some here. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe are doing the Whole 30 in January. I'm looking forward to the kick in the pants. :) The snow is beautiful, trees always look fabulous once the decorations are on, such a bummer about puss, and what great news to read about Max. You've got some awesome kiddos :) Are you teaching ski school again this year?
ReplyDeleteSo jealous of all your snow!!!! It's such a tease around here and the kids are frustrated, me too!! I am so sorry to hear about your kitty ;(. I guess it's a danger living in such a wonderfully wild place. When I was at the Humane Society last week a woman came in wanting a cat for her kids so badly. But she said she lives in a very wild place and witnessed a Great Horned Owl swoop and try to take a neighbor's kitty from the front porch! The owner broke her hip by throwing herself on the cat to save him!! The lady didn't take one home that day, but I guess it's just the risk you take unless you can keep the cat indoors right? Which is like a form of torture to them if they have ever been outside...
ReplyDeleteI'm rambling.
I admire your commitment to whole 30. I gave up trying to adhere to any set diet/health plan years ago. It makes me crazy, seriously--nutso in the head...
Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend Ivey, good luck to your boy as he continues to transition! Hug your babes close :).
xoxo
So sorry to hear of the kitty. I think the hardest part is not knowing what happened. Send some snow to the front range.
ReplyDeleteOH! Snow! I am jealous. A week till Christmas and still none to speak of here.
