If I were the type to name my house/property, I'd name it Nestle Down. It would be painted on a board and nailed to a fence by the mailbox. No fancy-ness, no pretension, just a guarantee that you are going to be cozy when you walk through the door. I don't own a house on which to bestow a moniker, but now that I think about it, what the hell does that matter? Every house we've ever lived in has been a "Nestle Down". It's a state of mind, if I'm not mistaken. So guess what? A sign is going up. In the space of a paragraph, I've fulfilled a life long yearning. Della and I will get right on it after school and that sign will travel where 'er we go. That's what I love about the internet. I sat down a few moments ago with nothing but a vision of coziness and a name that I've carried around in a soul pocket for probably 20 years, and now we have a damn family estate. Almost instant therapy. Writing it down helps to make it clear and I get to drag along you sweet people for some checks and balances. You are all formally invited to Nestle Down.
Which brings me around to....Do you LOVE your bed? You should. I do. Ours is on its last leg and I'm not looking forward to replacing it, but this weekend at our clothing swap I had a
tempur-pedic epiphany. My friend Natalie is house-sitting and we had the swap in the lovely lair of a single
dude. Right when we got there Natalie ordered us to his bedroom. Get in that bed, she said. OMG was created for such an experience. We are probably over his age limit, but he should be pleased that so many women were moaning in his bed. I'm not even going to google the price (actually I did, it's in the above link...gulp) because the thrift gods stepped in with an almost perfect solution. A fat temper-pedic mattress pad...brand new, king size, thank you Tracy, my thrift scout.
Down comforters, lots of patterns and pillows, a heated mattress pad, vintage wool throws, a candle, some hot tea, a good book, a cold winter night....it all adds up.
To Nestle Down.
P.S. Also, I am TWO cashmere sweaters richer, thanks to the clothing swap. Talk about cozy!
....ooooh- love "Nestle down".
ReplyDeleteLove my bed- chef built it- wonderful organic mattress and down comforters "dyne" in Scandinavia. Going to bed early is a like a little piece of heaven after a looong day. Lucky you with your thrifty finds :)
Nestle Down is great, love it!
ReplyDeleteI love my bed too, just wish I could sleep in it. We had a family bed, just got the little man his own bed a few months ago and it seems the family bed has moved to his bed :) One day I will be back in my own bed...right?
i remember those days! Yes!! one day you will sleep like a normal adult again! until then you still get to 'nestle down' in the best possible way...with that darling boy of yours!!!
Deletei wish i could do a clothing swap around here but everyone i know is too preppy or too short to trade clothes with :(
ReplyDeleteand we desperately need a new mattress and are lusting after a temper-pedic.
So glad you have embraced your home name...
ReplyDeletemay it travel with you, wherever you feel at home.
And I am so glad you found the mattress pad. We have
one too, and oh-my is it a sweet (affordable) comfort.
...what about somebody to share it with??
ReplyDeletetell me, in detail, what you have in mind, seƱor.
Deletemaybe we should discuss this "in private"...
DeleteI love the name and the bed! You've lit a little fire under me. I hate our bedroom....sigh....hate it. It always seems like other projects or rooms get first priority. Heck, we didnt even have a bed frame till just a few months ago! Not good at all. Cant wait to see your sign and yes a house swap should be in order! Although you might want to hold out a tad longer, we just found out that we might be headed to Monterey California next! The housing is even closer to the ocean!
ReplyDeleteGreat name for your home!
ReplyDeleteI love my bed, a lot. We bought a new mattress and box springs a few years ago, they sit in an old 1920's four poster bed frame, covered in layers of comforters and a quilt with lots of pillows. Over the bed is a wrought iron wall candleabra that sets the whole thing off!
Oh YUM! I love the headboard! Tell me all about how you made it so I can make one too!

hhmmmm. matt made it. he nailed some boards to two other boards that are on the back and then screwed it all to the wall. how's that for precise?! our mattress and boxspring sit on the floor...we need to do something about that, prolly.
DeleteYour place looks so cozy and of course I love your new house name. Take a picture of the sign once you and Della make it!
ReplyDeleteIf I had to name our house right now it would be called 'Watch Your Step Cottage"
Awesome headboard, and Nestle Down, I love it. It is the kind of name I would drive by in envy!! I can't tell you how many beds we have gone through due to my Hubs back problem. We now have a memory foam topper and while it's ok, I agree the tempurpedic would be ideal, without the damn pricetag anyway. Btw, you and Brother Matt need to get a room, not just a bed.
